Kitchen Tip – Baking Soda

kitchentiptuesdays

Ummmm….smell that?? Spring is in the air! I’ve been starting my spring cleaning and thought this tip could use a repost from last year. Hope you all are enjoying the lovely weather we are here…

Baking Soda

I love using baking soda as much as I love using vinegar for all sorts of cleaning projects. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Making Soft Scrub
  • Sprinkling on stuck-on food when washing dishes
  • Adding to dish water – it helps remove food and softens your hand
  • Use 1 cup baking soda down your drain followed by 3 cups boiling water to keep drains clear
  • Removing soap scum from the tub and sinks
  • Removing smell from pickle jars so the jars can be reused
  • Sprinkling in the garbage can to keep the kitchen smelling fresh

How do you use Baking Soda? I’d love to have more uses for it! For more great Tips visit Tammy’s Recipes every Tuesday.

I never thought to use baking soda to get the smell out of vinegar jars! I always hate to throw them out because they are such nice wide-mouthed containers. Thanks–I’m going to try that as soon as the jar is empty. (In this house, that’ll be in about 15 minutes…my boys loooove pickles!)

Whenever I’ve tried to get the smell out of vinegar jars with baking soda it works great to get the smell out of the glass jar part but it never works with the lids. Then when I put the lid back on the whole thing smells again….This hasn’t been a problem for you? Maybe I’m doing something wrong?

Evelyn~ I just soak the lids in a plastic container with a little baking soda, hot water and dish liquid. It works great!

I use Baking Soda a lot too, but I had never thought of the pickle jar idea. I am going to try this, thanks.

I used baking soda with vinegar to get boiled over cranberries which then I had grab a sponge to cleanup but it melted on the burner ( new FLAT TOP stove ) It took some time, a looong time, but it is all gone. The manufacturer product did not touch removing the burnt on mess… Baking Soda & Vinegar works wonders on cooktops :^)
